Jane S. Kornblut, M.Ed.
Ms Kornblut joined Third Sector services in 2005 as principal and senior consultant. The focus of her practice is on leadership development, executive coaching and organizational assessment and planning. She facilitates board development sessions and strategic planning retreats and presents training seminars and conferences on a variety of nonprofit management topics.
Recently, Kornblut relocated to Chapel Hill, expanding her executive coaching and organizational planning practice to the North Carolina Triangle. This fall, she presented a workshop on coaching as supervision at the North Carolina Nonprofit Association state conference in Raleigh and facilitated a leadership development workshop for United Way grantees and selected Chatham county staff. On an ongoing basis she works with Chatham County Habitat for Humanity on strategic planning and staff development projects. She serves as an executive coach for the Duke University Executive Leadership program.
For eight years Kornblut served as executive director of Volunteer Fairfax (VF), a regional resource center for volunteerism and nonprofit capacity building. She initiated programs for youth leadership development, corporate employee community involvement projects around the issues of homelessness, at risk youth, affordable housing and community building. She served for six years as the co-chair of the Metropolitan Coalition of Volunteer Centers. Additionally, she served on the county executive’s steering committee for the development the Fairfax County Citizen Corps Council (FCCCC) and was a charter member of the FCCCC, taking the lead to work with first responders in developing citizen and volunteer emergency response plans for homeland security.
In 2005, she completed a year’s tenure as the nonprofit professional-in-residence at George Mason University where she was the director of the nonprofit studies program. In this capacity, she taught nonprofit management courses in philanthropy and fundraising, leadership and organizational change in the graduate MPA program.
In 2006, Kornblut designed a curriculum and facilitated a four-part seminar series, Start Smart, custom- tailored for new nonprofit executive directors who have been in their positions for two years or less. Sponsored by the Center For Nonprofit Advancement and funded by the Meyer Foundation, this highly acclaimed educational program is in its third year.
Prior to her tenure at VF, she was a senior associate of the National Center for Nonprofit Boards, now BoardSource, where she consulted with boards of directors across the nation on a variety of governance issues and facilitated board retreats, conference roundtables and other community forums. She also served as a senior consultant with the American Symphony Orchestra League, was president of the League’s National Volunteer Council and a member of the League’s national board of directors.
In addition to her professional work, Ms. Kornblut is an active community volunteer. Currently, she serves as project coordinator for the Community Engagement committee at the Episcopal Church of the Advocate and as a member of the Chapel Hill Project Homeless Connect. In Virginia, she served as vice-chair of the Fairfax County Community Council on Homelessness and the chair of the planning committee to end homelessness. She was a charter member of the board of directors of the Virginia Network of Nonprofit Organizations, (VANNO) a state-wide association for the nonprofit sector.
Ms. Kornblut holds a BA degree in music from American University and an M.Ed in educational counseling from George Mason University.
